Soft Enamel Pins
Soft enamel is the finish most people picture when they think of a collectible pin: color sitting slightly below raised metal lines, so you can feel the design under your thumb. It takes fine detail well, costs less than hard enamel, and carries color with real saturation.
How the texture happens
Your artwork is struck into metal, creating walls that separate each color. Enamel is filled into the recesses and cured without polishing, so the metal lines stay raised and the color sits recessed. That relief is the soft enamel signature.
Because the enamel is not ground flat, fine line work and small lettering stay crisp. Designs with 6 or more colors usually reproduce better in soft enamel than any other process.
Where soft enamel wins
Pick soft enamel for trading pins, band and fan merch, conference badges, and any run where budget decides quantity. The savings against hard enamel buys you roughly 20 percent more pins for the same spend.
An optional epoxy dome can be added over the face, which smooths the texture and adds scratch protection while keeping the lower price.
